Old Street - Bak Kut Teh @ Plaza Singapura

I am a person who loves to drink soup, especially those very strong tasteful soup.
Looking around for dinner on a weeknight in town usually is a difficult approach.
I'm very fortunate to come across this petite restaurant, which serves bak kut teh (Pork Ribs).
What so special about this shop.
It have limited seating, however, the stall is managed by matured adults to oldies, who actually are very high tech. They teaches their customers to order food using their e-menu on an ipad. With such limited space available, they are able to make arrangements for every one time they have at least 30 plus pax. Their utensils, i.e. chopsticks spoons all can be found in the table's compartment itself. It made us feel like we are eating on a transformer spaceship. Haha.. .pun intended.
They are well-known especially for the soft tender and juicy pork ribs served. You get to taste the wholesome feel of it once it is in your palate. The meat is so soft that it literally melts in your mouth.
Fancy more for peppery soup, try this shop.
They have good promo package: about S$11 for a set, that comes with a bowl of soup with pork ribs, you tiao, rice and tow hway.
It is quite decent that you can order that set and shared by 2.
Their service crew are all friendly and ready to help. Although some are of retired age, but they still look as young and strong as ever.
Recommended for Dinner gathering, best to try to book  before going down, if not just queue a little while and you are ready to dine!

Lunch Hi Tea @ Axis Bar and Lounge (Mandarin Oriental)

What is Hi Tea? I have always know Hi Tea as piping hot pastries served in wooden weave basket, with various steam flavors of baos, soup dumplings and even fry snacks like those in Yum Cha. However, today I experienced a different Hi Tea!

The afternoon started without lunch but just Hi-Tea!
I was rather excited as it was our nation (Golden Jubilee) 50 years of age, SG50.
Was wondering what surprises will I have.. so here it goes..

As for starter, a cooling soft gel-like jelly with a tint of sweetness just fall smoothly down the throat. Soothing the throat and as it is refreshing, which also act as a palate cleanser.
Unique combination yet tasty.

Gula Melaka Pandan Jelly

The bar is brightly lighted with a good sky view, enjoying 'Emperor's White Garden' & 'Miraculous Mandarin' these two pot of TWG tea enlighten our mood and set the environment into a zen Saturday.

With the theme for the year as SG50, Mandarin Oriental came to develop a monthly local delights menu with a chosen choice of favor each month. In the month of June, it was Coconut and for the month of July it is Pandan.

Each small bite size canapes are infused with Pandan (Screwpine Leave) flavor.
A simple wrap with tenderness and juicy filled chicken wrapped around the refreshing cucumber wraps. Carefully prepared smooth and mouth-melting Foie Gras sandwiched in between the toast. It gave the different texture and crunch to each bite. Creating excitement and enjoyment.

Singapore Specials? Majority of the ideas are evolves from Nonya Kuehs as it is one our our local delights.
Plates of dessert, sweets and savory, where East meets the West!

Their service crews and managers are dressed neatly and always seen wearing a smiles. They are very polite and have always kept a lookout on their diners, that's a Thumb up (LIKE) for them!

This place is recommended for couples (of all walks of life) who wants to spend their special time alone and or a place to have a peaceful meal away from all your busy schedules! Here's a chance for a great escape!

Pizzeria Mozza @ MBS

If you are one who likes seating in a bar for meet-ups, chilling evenings, gathering with love ones (couple, family) or even a boys-night-out / ladies-nights-out. This is a place with its right ambience set up just for you!

Mozza have two concept shop situated next to each other, also known as the restaurant: Osteria Mozza and the the other side sells PIZZA, also known as Pizzeria Mozza.

A little background adapted from their website
"With a devout commitment to product, environment and hospitality, Nancy Silverton, Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich meld their prodigious talents to bring Pizzeria Mozza and Osteria Mozza to the heart of Singapore." ~ http://singapore.pizzeriamozza.com/the-restaurant/

Thankfully we have these guys bringing traditional Italian food to our homeland.

Both dining concepts are very different though it is just situated next to each other. The Osteria Mozza is like a fine-dining bar setup whereas Pizzeria Mozza is like a cafe bar setup. Both sides have their crowds, the lighting are dimmed down to build the ambience for the fine dining and for the pizzeria, it is brighter especially at the sit-around counter tables (where the main bulk of work is being done!) If you like live station, you would like to be seated a front of the oven, where they have non stops pizzas shove in and taken out of their stone oven.

The Pizzeria Mozza is pretty spacious, however to be able to handle the crowd, their tables set together have a limited walking space in between. Nonetheless, they left a passage walk way.

 Prosciutto de Parma (Complimentary)

As this dining venue gave us a little atas fine dining cafe style where it all started with some snacks. In chinese restaurant you have peanuts, here we are served with ham made into crackers with herbs. It is uniquely flavourful!

 Nancy's chopped salad

To start our meal, we chose a lightly seasoned salad, with chickpeas and cherry tomatoes! The chef had selected different cabbages to add on colors and allure our appetite further. As colors helps one vision to build up excitement.

Bone Marrow Al Forno

Next up, was our bone marrow with garlic and toasted buttery bread aside.
After seeing the 'bone marrow'in the menu the first thing that came to my mind was something like the bone marrow you could find in 'Soup Tulang'.

1st thought of the Bone Marrow (Soup Tulang)
But unexpectedly, the presentation was so simple that I was pretty taken aback. At first, when the dish was served I was contemplating whether to eat it, as there is no gravy.

Hoping not to regret, I placed a tiny little bit into my mouth, it just melts, and it became very addictive. The sides helps to add on more flavor to the bone marrow, especially with the various combination that you can try with!

As I am recalling, the taste is unforgotten.

Calamari al forno with fagioli & oregano

To satisfy our seafood craving and curiosity on how they would prepare this dish. We ordered.
Though chickpea have very minimal flavor, and calamari, if it was not prepared properly there will be a 'fishy'smell left behind. So with the herbs, this simple dish had become juicy keeping the sweetness and freshness of the seafood.

Bacon, salame (fennel sausage, pancetta, tomato & mozzarella) - Meat Lover's

Lastly, we ordered our PIZZA! As this restaurant serves only stone oven pizza, this makes this thin crust pizza delicious, cooking it till just the right time and not over baking it. Of cos, the chef who are preparing it also plays a very important role.

Having said all these, the food served that night at the restaurant have very minimum decoration. As that brings up the colors of the main dishes and not overpowering it. The sides, herbs and spices used are to help enhance the flavour aroma of the main dish.

I would definitely frequent this restaurant again. Though it is a little more pricey then average. Their staff are very friendly and sociable. They are there always to recommend their top list of chef recommendation!

Gentle Reminder: It is always full (do make a reservation before you head down)

Chabuton @ Millenia Walk

We found a hidden treasure for a quick lunch eat and go. We were greeted with the ramen display attracting our eyes with those beautiful colors and enticing our appetites with illustrations of the noodles and ingredients.

It is a relatively small outlet compared to its neighbour Saboten, brightly litted, bringing a cheerful and relaxing ambience for quick getaway from your work.

We are spoilt with choices, as Chabuton offers a variety of different ramen with different soup base.
Nothing beats trying the original, despite having a simple presentation of the food it gives a clean and clear appearance where one can appreciate its simplicity.

Ordering their most famous Tonkatsu Ramen, what left in our mouth was a thick and flavourful mingling of its strong stock. In a cold weather, it will be best to have just a bowl of it.

Chabuton Tonkotsu Ramen

Browsing through the menu further, if you are a small eater and would always like to have a chance of ordering their kids menu, Chabuton, gives its diners a choice of ordering a small bowl of rice which comes with a slice of 'char siew' and some prickles to tease the appetite.

Char Siew Don

In my opinion, Chabuton offers in a relatively reasonable pricing for its range of items and their quality of food was not substandarded, ranging from S$15 - S$28 per pax.

It is a place I would recommend for a dinner / company lunch gathering for fun and relaxing Friday.

Their servers are very friendly, they are also  very attentive at all time, (as their shop layout allows their servers to keep all its diners in their view, at all time) ensuring their diners have their needs met.

I will definitely head back there again!

Damatory @ Robertson Quay

Damotory, situated along the Singapore River, you have an option to choose to sit indoors on tatami (Korean style) seats or on wooden benches for an indoor picnic dining experience or enjoy the night breeze with al fresco dining.

Damotory Korean Wine House

The setup of the eatery gave me a very authentic feel when I entered. At the store front you will think it is just an exclusive bar, however exploring deeper, you will be welcome with the various kind of seating.

The place just litted up with enough lightings from the natural resources, it may get a little warmer in the late afternoon at about 2-3pm but do not fear.
The service staff upon request will specially prepare a strong standing fan for you.

The night service are usually pack with groups of people be it for gathering, catch up or chillax moments. (Do make reservations before heading down.)

The food are usually cooked, it does not require you to DIY bbq, but just make orders...
It ranges from seafood pancakes to spicy rice cakes to spicy chicken wings and even to cold meat platter. Of course without missing out kimchi!
(Their kim chi served are still crunchy and juicy bringing out the sweetness.)

The food serves all walks of life, if you can take spiciness try their spicy chicken
(may be quite spicy for some), if you are bringing kids along do ask for a plate with the sauce separated.

The service crew are very attentive, alert and well dressed! They help to make us feel home when are dining there and also recommending the food that we should try, as its our first time there.

I was given a chance to tried it and I be back for more. If you are just plain looking for Korean family style food, this is where you should be coming!

Roosevelt’s Diner & Bar

Looking for a dining venue to hype up your appetite for dinner on a weeknight after a long and tiring work day. Here's a cafe near Outram Park Mrt, easily accessible. (Exit H escalator, on the right)

Was greeted with a large bottle of alcohol label at the display window, thought it was just another plain boring bar to drink in, I was wrong.

It is rather a romantic place where the lights are warm and dim, just gives you a cool and cozy feeling. They have a great welcoming team and rather good choice of English pop music to lighten and perks each individual mood's up.

Sweet and Rose Wine (Moscato)
Happy hour between 5pm to 8pm  (1 for 1) for those who loves to pair their dinner with wine / liqueur, you shouldn't miss this opportunity.

Japanese Sesame Salad

The salad is refreshing and light, the salad dressing complemented the silky tofu. Having the various fresh vegetables giving its crunch and  the juice, it filled my whole palate. Opening up my appetite for the other savory food. =)

BBQ Baby Back Ribs

When the baby back ribs was served, the aroma of the dish fills the whole cafe leaving a tinkling feeling in the nose requesting for a second sniff. With the mixed gardens vegetables, it added color to the dish.

Taking the first bite of the pork, it is so tender and yet juicy at the same time.
(Usually, bbq meat are dry and tough). The greens blended well with the meat providing a balance in taste with the sweetness from the meat and clearing your palate after each mouthful. The meat is so well prepared that separating them from the bones wasn't an issued. I was really tempted to order a second helping!

*It seems that this is their most popular dish among their patronizers*

Smoked Salmon Waffle

All meals usually comes to a close with dessert! So if you are like me, who love crunchy waffles, you should try this. The maple Greek yogurt neutralize the saltiness from the smoked salmon giving a wholesome taste.

As I observed, the team made an effort to make their dishes as wholesome and as well balanced as possible. Plating with enough colors playing with our appetite, and giving sides like greens to give the different texture ('it makes you feel healthier too').

*who says waffle can't be served with salad, they did it*

It gets real busy after 7.30 pm and seating capacity are quite limited, I would recommend to make a reservation before dropping by. Do not try walking in. This venue is pretty suitable for groups gathering! Though their service crew dressed pretty casual, but they look neat and order, and being attentive and alert to their patronizers is another plus point.

Averagely this place ranges about S$30 per pax.

Jumpin 23 @ Irivng Place

Wondering what kind of delicious food to fill your tummy at an affordable price for lunch at tai seng area besides hawker/kopitiam and restaurants...

Came across a white Vespa23 a front of a Café along Irving Place. Just by a few minutes walk from Taiseng Mrt...

In such an industrial area, it just provides me a warm homily feel, providing individual wooden seats and even a couch, it just bring you out of work and let your mind relax for that very hour.

If you have large group, do remember to make reservations as their lunch crowds would start coming in between 12.30pm to 1ish.

It maybe a little squeezey but the food served is relative delicious. The aroma of the cooked food just feels the air, making you wanting more.

Their servers are all in their teens, are able to keep you welcome with warm smiles and greetings. Attending to your needs.

They have a great variety of food in their menu.

Spicy chicken burger

Eggs benedict's

Honey Paprika Wings
(a spice made from air-dried fruits of the chili pepper family of the species Capsicum annuum)

Ice mocha

This is how we should be relaxing during lunch to sustain for the rest of the day and not just rush off a meal.

Would definitely be coming back for a second time to try out their charcoal waffles!

Definitely a place to unwind after a hectic day or even small groups gathering!
